Teaching

Emerson House and Emerson House Online offers Three Learning Programmes, depending on your child's needs and your situation:
1.) Sessions our flagship programme of 3 core subjects
2.) Tutorials offered 1 teacher to 1 pupil in fully flexible format
3.) Clubs and Courses teaching our core subjects to small groups during term and holiday time

Whichever programme is right for you, our specialist teachers create a nurturing environment. All our teachers are specially qualified to teach children who require support. Many have groundings in other educational qualifications such as general primary or secondary teaching, speech therapy and educational psychology. They are trained and dedicated to support those who most need help.

Sessions

Our '3 Hour Sessions' provide comprehensive support to unlock the child's abilities

Our core structure we call our '3-Hour Sessions' which are provided over the course of a morning or afternoon. During this time, children have focused tuition in literacy, touch typing and maths following individualised programmes for each child. The objective is to give children the skills and confidence to learn on a level footing with other children of the same age.

We have a maximum of 22 children in the centre for our Sessions with separate study spaces and rooms with specialist materials for maths and literacy as well as a touch-typing room where children sit at one of our eight workstations.

Our morning schedule finishes at 12:15pm when children are free to return to their own schools for lunch and the afternoon schedule finishes at 4:30pm

Most children attend Emerson House for at least two morning or afternoon Sessions per week, depending on the child’s individual needs and the parents’ and current school’s wishes.

Paired Learning has social and learning benefits
We believe that children’s self-confidence improves by interacting and encouraging each other - during break times, before and after lessons start, we create a sense of community and shared purpose. In addition, we carefully pair children for literacy and maths sessions in order to optimise their learning experience.

"Pupils support each other well and share pleasure in others' achievements and success." (CReSTeD report)

Tutorials, Clubs and Courses

Depending on the child's assessed needs we provide one-on-one Tutorials in each discipline as well as group Clubs.

One-on-one Tutorials can be focused on one or more subjects and can be held at our premises after school or on a flexible basis Online.

We run Clubs with up to 8 pupils and up to 2 teachers, these are open to all children:
Reading & Spelling Club on Friday afternoons;
Touch Typing Club: during Term after school Monday-Friday. Touch Typing courses are also run during half term and end of term holidays (see Holiday Courses)
